To me personally, the trend towards chatbox search navigation focuses more in the winnowing down to an answer, which is needed, but my favorite parts of internet search is following links that perhaps are not directly related, but curious.
The phrase is “rabbitholing” and this interesting service called… rabbithole sets you up for an exploration for any topic. Each result provides branching options related to your term, just links, wikipedia articles, you tube videos, articles about concepts, etymology of terms. This then leads you to a whole new series of options that you can continue.
And a few branches in, you can see your path on the left. And the whole journey can be shared as a link. So here is one I started with “Open Educational Resources” and ended up somehow into 1960 social movements:
