I am always seeking ways to entice people into OEG Connect to create a useful community space. What does our activity here look like? We have just added a new plugin to our discourse powered site to create a visualization of activity in OEG Connect.
Our Community Network Visualization is always available under the 3 bar menu in the top right, under User Network:
Lines represent connections between individuals that are a combination of Likes sent/received as well as replies to topics. Hovering over one user highlights their connections:
Clicking any user name, like Erica’s above, links to their profile that not only shows their information entered, but also their OEG activity.
We have over 700 people who have joined OEG Connect since we launched in June 2020, many of them coming here for the OE Global 2020 conference and others for work on special projects.
To make the visualization more easy to read, we are showing people who have activity sufficient to reach Level 2 status in the platform:
- Visiting at least 15 days, not sequentially
- Casting at least 1 like
- Receiving at least 1 like
- Replying to at least 3 different topics
- Entering at least 20 topics
- Reading at least 100 posts
- Spend a total of 60 minutes reading posts
We hope you have more reason to be activity here than showing up on the graph! We are developing a series of activities that we think might draw more people here to light up the visualization.
Are these diagrams useful? What do you learn about a community from this? Just replying/liking here will create connections!
