I am honored to be a candidate for the OEGlobal Board of Directors 2026, representing Palestine and the wider Arab/MENA region.

My vision is to support open education as a pathway to equity, inclusion, and resilience, especially for learners and educators in marginalized and crisis-affected contexts. I am particularly interested in advancing responsible AI in open education, strengthening OER/OEP capacity, and increasing the voice of underrepresented regions within OEGlobal.

I would be grateful to hear your questions, ideas, and expectations from candidates. I believe this discussion is an important opportunity to listen, learn, and build together.

In addition to my vision, I would like to share a few of my contributions to the Open Education community:

  • Led the UNESCO-funded OER SMART Project, promoting Open Educational Resources (OER) adoption and capacity building across Palestine and Jordan. UNESCO OER SMART Project Video
  • Invited as an expert by UNESCO to contribute to regional OER initiatives and capacity-building activities.
  • Teach the Open Educational Resources (OER) course in the Master’s Program in Educational Technology and E-Learning at Al-Quds Open University.

I look forward to collaborating with the OEGlobal community to further strengthen open education worldwide.

Hi everyone! It is truly an honor to be among the slate of candidates for the OEG board. I would love to engage in a discussion here on OEG Connect about the future for OEG. Please ask me any questions about my vision or ideas. I do think we need to prioritize sustainability, network building, intersections between Open and AI, and work to actualize intentional connections in the open ecosystem - especially between Open Science and Open Education. Please share your ideas as well and let’s start working together to help shape the next set of priorities for OEGlobal!

hank you, Karen, for sharing this inspiring vision. I strongly agree on the importance of strengthening the intersection between Open Education and AI. I hope we will have the opportunity to work together through the OEGlobal Board on collaborative projects and research related to OER and AI, increasing the development and adoption of Open Educational Resources in multiple languages and expanding the use of OER to support education in crisis-affected contexts and empower marginalized communities.
