Wow, is this ever an amazing approach to education about OER from Selkirk College (British Columbia). It’s a bit of a game and an interactive experience that all starts from a landing page for the OER Quest.
It looks like if you win you have a chance to go for a zipline adventure with the college President (available to Selkirk folks only we assume).
The quest leads to an experience hosted in an OER Quest Guidebook (published in Pressbooks) which is in itself and excellent stand alone resource.
This Guidebook is an open educational learning resource. It was developed for the IMW (Instructional Media Workshop) course for Instructors at Selkirk College, developed and delivered by the Teaching and Learning Centre. It covers the topic of Open Educational and includes an interactive, challenge based H5P Quest.
After reading through the intro on What is Open Education? the quest includes chapters on The World of Open Educational Resources:
- Find an OER
- The Search for Options
- Licensing Your OER
- Where To Share
- Simulations and Scenarios
- A Quest For OERs
Finally the quest itself is embedded as an H5P that uses one of my favorite content types, the Game Map where you explore this mythical land of OER starting at the High Plains of Academia, crossing the Gulf of Denial to explore the Collegial Forest and OER Island.
To bavigate, you must complete. series of activities that sequentially lead you through questions that make up the earlier chapters of the book.
This is so well designed and also very informative for someone new or maybe just familiar with OER.
If anyone completes the quest (I have not yet), reply below.
