Open Education Week is honored to have back for its fifth year in a row that fabulous [We Like Sharing photo competition](https://oeweek.oeglobal.org/activity/we-like-sharing-open-photo-competition-2025/) hosted by TU Delft deftly managed by @bdelosarcos and recognized with [a 2023 OE Award for Excellence](https://awards.oeglobal.org/awards/2023/wildcard/we-like-sharing/).

While the competition is open to TUDeflt staff and students, I always thought this was a replicable format, and even last year ran [a small version of it through OEGlobal](https://connect.oeglobal.org/t/run-your-own-we-like-sharing-for-oe-week/6367).

I had grand plans again, but… alas… yet I believe we can still invoke the photo sharing here as an activity in OEG Connect.

## Photos Sought

We will use similar themes for photos as the TU Deflt 2025 competition.

- **Open in the World** “What does open mean to you? Capture your feelings, your thoughts, your passion about open in a photo!” Share a photo of something in the world around you that suggests openness, is a metaphor for openness, or demonstrates how Open is visible in the world.

- **Details of your physical Space** Let’s photograph where you work/live/stufy from the inside. What happens inside your building? Take a curious eye at your surroundings, show us your favourite space; look up, look down, look closer, what can you see that others can’t? If you had to show your research or interests in a photo, what would that be?

Reply below with your image, and details you wish to share about it, the geographic location, and the Creative Commons License image you will share it under.

## Incentives?

Well the sharing is enough right? I’d love to develop a community collection like TU Delft has built over the years-- we will upload all attributed images to an OEGlobal flickr album.

And we will let the community here vote to decide on the winners. Finalists will be selected from replies here with the most likes and we will create a poll to vote on the final winners.

And yes, we might have prizes available for you. This is still under wraps, but maybe if we start seeing photos, added here, the details may emerge.

Do you like photos? Do you like sharing? Let’s start it happening here!

Not sure if I’m even eligible for this contest since I work at OEGlobal, but here’s my submission.

My first thought was to snap a pic of an open flower in my yard… but then I attended a webinar on finding/adding OER to your courses, and the presenter didn’t going into much detail about how publicly available does not equal openly-licensed. So I guess we should remix this sign that reads, “CAUTION MAKE SURE DOOR IS FULLY OPEN INSPECT CLEARANCE” to say:

CAUTION
MAKE SURE ITEM
IS FULLY **OPEN**
INSPECT **COPYRIGHT**

Bonus picture of an open flower because I feel like it:

Sharing is the best prize. That’s a great door sign and nuance for what open means. I’d re-use that for sure.

Plus a bonus flower, a California Poppy I’d guess? Lovely

Like Liz, I am definitely not eligible for prizes, but I have a fascination for [collecting photos featuring symbols/objects as “open” or “closed”](https://www.flickr.com/photos/cogdog/albums/72157717608634761/).

This sign is found on electrical boxes around this area where I live now. It has that conveyance that those you wish to profit for content or the tech bros who want you not to use open source that open is “dangerous”, even with a warning call from a pelican (?)

![Sign with large Danger word above a boy figure trying to open a green box. A large red X covers this action. If this is not enough the bottom words warn "Do Not Open. You can be badly hurt". At the top, a bird wearing an extra hat adds an extra "NO!"](https://connect.oeglobal.org/uploads/default/original/2X/6/6c1a3c3ba0377d9824767fa6d5807228796325d7.jpeg)

Do not listen. Going open will not make you badly hurt. In fact, using the closed boxes is more harmful

Yup - It’s a California poppy. Despite our rather dry winter, they’re popping up all over our yard!
