Artificial Intelligence and Libraries: Empowering Knowledge for Sustainable Development:
In our rapidly changing world, digital libraries are more than just repositories—they are gateways to knowledge and innovation. With the rise of AI, libraries can now analyze data, personalize learning experiences, and expand access to knowledge like never before. By integrating AI tools responsibly, libraries can empower learners, researchers, and communities, contributing to sustainable development and fostering a culture of open knowledge. Let’s explore how AI can make digital knowledge hubs truly transformative for society.

Hello, I wish to find any OER teachers / designers interested by this subject to gather on this topic: how to teach, in any discplines, #SDG. The Learning Planet Institute has developed a platform in this regard: Background
The Learning Planet Institute (LPI) is a nonprofit organization based in Paris. Its mission is to empower learners to build better futures.
WeLearn is an AI-powered tool developed at LPI to facilitate education on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
WeLearn is not just an open source AI software. It also comes with openly available, validated, high quality resources. As of January 2026, WeLearn includes a database of close to 1 million documents related to the SDGs, built from collections of over 16 million online documents in either of these 4 categories:
-
Scientific publications (e.g. OpenAlex)
-
Science communication (e.g. TheConversation)
-
Institutional reports (e.g. IPCC)
-
Open Education Resources (e.g. Uved)
All resources added to Welearn are selected according to three main criteria:
-
Openness: all documents are open-access (e.g. CC-BY license or equivalent)
-
Reliability: all collections have a reputation of quality
-
Relevance: using a classification model, documents from all collections are automatically filtered to include only documents linked to either of the 17 SDGs.
Call to Action
In this context, the WeLearn team is looking at establishing a small community of experts and practitioners who are able to sign off on the resources that are incorporated in WeLearn, as well as to suggest new, relevant, high quality resources to be added to the WeLearn database, in either of the 4 categories above.
You are receiving this message because we believe you can support this action. Please contact Dr. Chahab Nastar, head of R&D at LPI: chahab.nastar@learningplanetinstitute.org
