Another 2025 TOCEC OER Excellence Award Winner from Taiwan — Prof. Jong-Yih Kuo, NTUT

As we get ready for tomorrow’s “OEGlobal Tour Day 1: Middle East, Asia & Oceania”, we’re delighted that one of this year’s TOCEC Open Education Excellence Award winners will be part of the lightning talk session, sharing Taiwan’s open education story with the global community.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to highlight another award-winning initiative that represents Taiwan’s growing strength in open education — the work of Prof. Jong-Yih Kuo (郭忠義教授) from National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT).

Since the 2020 academic year, Prof. Kuo has integrated Open Textbooks (OTB) across seven university courses, producing more than 271 open video-based teaching materials covering Programming, Computer Organization, Artificial Intelligence, and Network Programming. By combining YouTube OTB videos with interactive tools like Zuvio, he has developed a highly engaging flipped-classroom model that has improved learning outcomes and reached a student satisfaction rate of 84%.

Prof. Kuo’s approach also encourages co-creation, allowing students to take part in developing course materials — a powerful embodiment of the OER spirit of reuse, remix, and collaboration. All materials are openly accessible, reflecting his ongoing commitment to openness in teaching and learning.

“The More Open the Resources, the More Effective the Teaching.”
