Here is more information about the CPD frameworks that Monge from OER Africa/NBA is referring to: Continuous Professional Development Frameworks | OER Africa

Some time ago, OEGlobal also collaborated with OIF and the African Virtual University on creating an OER Competency Framework. It is available here: https://unesdoc.unesco.org/ark:/48223/pf0000266159_eng

Monge and colleagues, its great that you have developed frameworks and have projects aimed at more/better/ collaboration and open co-creation and sharing. From my experience in the HE space, we/academics are overloaded, struggle with Institutional demands and all the rest of it. In mho, the structures (policies /promotion criteria) have to change and then practice/praxis often is difficult to shift.

Igor Lesko
Hello Najma, agree. The operational realities play a big role here. This may be of interest to read too: Valuing OER in the Tenure, Promotion, and Reappointment Process: Valuing OER in the Tenure, Promotion, and Reappointment Process – Simple Book Publishing

Wisal Alim
Librarians play a key role in open education globally.
They support access to Open Educational Resources (OER), guide copyright and Creative Commons licensing, collaborate with faculty to design open content, and lead institutional initiatives that promote equity and lifelong learning. Their impact varies across countries, but the goal is the same: making education more accessible and inclusive.

Heather Blicher
Make it practical-

Najma Agherdien
Academics often request protected time (teacher Buy-outs) to create OER. This requires funding. As part of our University Capacity Dev Grant, we have had a few OER projects.

Heather Blicher
This is the same in the US. Very challenging to fund this- but so necessary.

Salha Abdo
From my perspective, I think we need to raise awareness of OEP and OER.

:books: Libraries Are Knowledge
Libraries are not just buildings filled with books — they are living gateways to wisdom.
They connect minds across generations, preserve the essence of human thought, and ignite the flame of discovery in every reader.
Through libraries, knowledge flows freely — empowering learners, inspiring researchers, and shaping the future of nations.

EPUB 3 is very accessible and can be translated into other languages.

Jan Gondol
…and it’s also an open standard! EPUB 3.3

Najma Agherdien
Lauren, the Ulwazi Lwethu project sounds amazing. I am interested in the notion of reading clubs. Any info on such would be greatly appreciated.

Libretext and Pressbooks can produce such digital texts for secondary and postsecondary education.

Other fantastic open resources for early learning are Digital Library of Stories for Kids | Stories | Storyweaver and https://www.africanstorybook.org/

Thanks for linking OER with the genocide. I don’t even know how to speak about public good and decolonization without speaking about the genocide

On Day 1 Saida Affouneh mentioned that “We look at Open Education as a seed of hope. It is a survival strategy. When all the education system is destroyed, learning will continue through Open Education. It is a survival strategy and a way towards freedom.”

Kirsty von Gogh
The Ulwazi Lwethu resources and the resources on the ELRN are available as print-ready files because we know how important it is to get the books into the hands of kids - and make these available in languages they understand. Some of the resources from Storyweaver and ASb have been converted to print files and are available on the ELRN.
