What Will You Share? OEWeek Town Square Now Open For Sharing Your Events

We are excited to open up the booth for event sharing in our “town square” theme for Open Education Week 2026. The open education community who has been part of OEWeek before does not wait for us as we have been tracking signs of activity planning already in place.

But perhaps it’s new to you. Since 2012 Open Education Global has coordinated Open Education Week as a celebration and opportunity for those working in Open Education to actively share their achievements and learn about what others are achieving worldwide. The whole goal is to make all of this available as a community built calendar of events, all locally organized by institutions and organizations worldwide.

This year we are asking you to consider OEWeek as the “Town Square of Open Education” in the sense of the type of places around the world that Wikipedia describes as “open public space commonly found in the heart of a traditional town or city, and which is used for community gatherings.” These are the kinds of active open spaces conducive to sharing.

We at OEGlobal devote our energy to one week of focus March 2-6, but we understand that the timing is not optimal in all parts of the world. After last year’s surveys and community conversations, we could not find the perfect week for all, so in the spirit of openness we invite you to plan your own OEWeek events for your schedule, not ours.

All we seek is to collection and list as many events happening in February, March, and April that we collect into one ongoing community calendar. How do we collect all those events? We don’t! The details all come from the people and organizations that plan them.

Now is the Time

As of January 21, 2026, you can start adding your events to the community calendar. For those still considering what kinds of events they might host, please see our Event Ideas Handbook. You can proceed directly to the form but please note and make use of our event contribution guide that details all information needed and the steps for accessing the web form.

We look forward to seeing the town square filled with Open Education events and activities, shared resources, and hope to see active sharing in your social networks.

How do you like our new graphics for 2026? We thank OEGlobal Creative Director Maria Badillo for the new look. All of the OEweek visuals, banners, social media images, virtual backgrounds, slide templates, and more are available for you to use under a CC-BY license from the OEWeek Visuals Kit.

Get excited and share widely all that you are planning and hope to participate in for Open Education Week 2026.
