Another SmallThings: Ephemeral Messages at Dear Next Visitor

How an I follow up on the wombats as smallthings to bring some light?

Id did come across a very clever site that plays on our expectation of what is published on the web as being “fixed” at a location, Dear Next Visitor is a totally ephemeral experience that is just for one person.

The start is a promise that there is a message waiting for you from the last person who came to the site.

Ahh, but given the heading “Give One, Take One” you first might write the message the next person will see.

Now I get the message left there by the last visitor before me

Indeed, just experiencing this small site does make my day “as happy as a squirrel finding a stash of nuts.”

Ahh, I might have to leave another message, because a happy marker for me is seeing my dog enjoy his rolling around in snow.

Take a few minutes at Dear Next Visitor and share what you got out of it (even if it is “this is dumb”)

What an interesting construction! …though I cannot say anything profound came out of it, except perhaps the meta of the moment: the thought process and awareness I experienced in considering what to say. The message I received was, “Hello, what’s the purpose of this thing?” The message I sent was, “The days are longer than the nights now. The morning sun grazes across a veneer of snow speckled with the emergence of spring. Wherever you are, I hope your day looks promising.” I am curious to try this again on other days.
