As You Arrive in Brisbane, Share Your Travel Tips

Most conference participants are arriving in a few days, and we’ve enjoyed seeing a few of you share your map distance to/from Brisbane.

The conference web site offers a great set of travel suggestions for getting to Brisbane, but often there is more as people navigate their travel.

I just arrived today, and because it’s a thing I enjoy doing in travel is figuring out local transportation. So I took the Airtrain as suggested on the conference site. It’s just up a level from where you exit baggage claim, across street. It was a quick 20 minutes to South Brisbane stop, close to the convention center and many hotels. Plus it was like 1/5 the cost of a taxi

More things- share places you find that are good for breakfast, or coffee, or specialty dining. Where are the good gift shops or for tech nerds, the electronic shops? What museums will you visit or where are some great places to walk and take photos?

Share here your Brisbane discoveries.

Free guided tour - City Botanic Gardens

If you’re arriving in Brisbane early for the conference and looking for something to do, why not take a stroll through the city’s beautiful Botanic Gardens? Originally planted in 1825, these gardens are home to some of the rarest and most unusual flowers and plants from around the world.

I stumbled upon a cute cafe called The Hideout Speciality Coffee on Edward on Sunday – delicious breakfast and coffee. I’ll definitely be returning!

The Mt. Coo-Tha lookout point is lovely, but I would recommend taking the bus instead of walking up (unless you’re used to steep hikes- I’m from a very flat island, and ended up on a very steep track!). For a lovely (free) view much closer to the convention center, the Star Deck (in the round building that has a split opening) is just across the Neville Bonner Bridge.

If you are silly and forgot a power converter like me, officeworks on Adelaide was the only place I could find one!

Thats very helpful Kayla, I barely could find mine before I left.

Also for other tech emergency needs, I did find a vending machine on the lower left of the convention center (left from main entrance) that sells various connectors \dongles as well as battery backs to recharge devices.

I went on the tour Monday afternoon, and the lady knew a lot, from the history of the city to the knowledge of all kinds of plants. Very happy to learn Brisbane through the Botanic Garden!
