I’m reaching out in connection with a new project that OER Africa, an initiative of Saide, is undertaking.
We are in the process of developing an online collection of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Open Educational Resources (OER) in Higher Education. This collection will aggregate existing resources, courses, and other assets, mapping them against a set of capability descriptors in our CPD Frameworks so that they can be made accessible through a single gateway.
We are particularly interested in resources with modifiable and reusable formats which can be adapted to different contexts and to support different modes of learning. Such resources should be aimed at various higher education stakeholders such as Senior Managers, Academics, and Academic Librarians.
Given the nature of our work, we are especially keen on resources from the Global South, but resources from institutions anywhere that meet this brief would be of interest to us.
If you have OER you think might be worth adding to the collection, we would be grateful if you could share them with us. Please either reply on this thread or email mohinibaijnath@nba.co.za
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Greetings, Mohini, and thanks for bringing this call to the OEG Connect community. We hope we can generate some connections/contributions that will lead to building out your planned CPD resources.
Perhaps it would help to see a few examples of the types if resources you are collecting, so people here understand the scope of the kinds of resources being gathered. And maybe some sense of how/where these will be shared? Is there information available about the “capability descriptors in our CPD Frameworks” (is related to this report? )
We certainly plan to amplify your message via other OEGlobal channels, and please return here in the future to share an update of the projects progress.
Hey, OEG Connect, let’s rally up some resources for OER Africa.
Hi Mohini,
I can help you out with OERs from India. Please let me know the specifics of subject, duration etc if you want these to be considered as the base.
Feel free to inbox or reply as you feel comfortable.
Thanks Heather- and nice to see you got the new HARVEST repository software in place. I hope you have some events or resources to share for Open Education Week —oops! I see that you have already added some! Thanks amdexpect more nudging from me
We are particularly interested in the following resources aimed at Senior Managers, Academics and Academic Librarians in higher education:
Courses and modules
Resources and instructional assets such as articles, reports, workshops, seminars, case studies, videos, and audio recordings.
Possible subject areas that the resources cover could include:
Improving academics’ teaching
OER and open licensing
Course and module design
Activity-based teaching
Assessment and feedback
Change management
Scholarship of teaching and learning
Continuous Professional Development
Once we have collected the resources, the next phase will involve reviewing them and mapping them against the capability descriptors in our CPD Frameworks. When this is complete, we will create the online collection of resources, which will be hosted on the OER Africa website. Proper attribution will be provided for any resources we host.
We’ll be happy to share a link to the collection once it is up and running.
Thanks Mohini, I am encouraging as much possible for others to contribute resources they know well.
I might strongly recommend the OERu Open Courses (contact @Mackiwg for details) that include the series of Learning in A Digital Age open courses, as well as ones such as
You may take a look at these. These are courses offered and are mapped as per the syllabus prescribed for UG and PG Programs. These are free to access and you can also get certified for some courses by paying and taking an exam. Pasting the URL for you to copy and check using your browser https://swayam.gov.in/
You can also refer to this- for school section (Uptil grade 12 as per Indian system) https://diksha.gov.in/
Though I must say that this is still in the process of development.
Hope you can find them useful.
Please inbox if you need something more.
