We have just sent email notifications to our various communication channels, but want to make sure everyone sees the update on the format for the October OEGlobal 2026 Conference
You will read the official statements on the decision by the OEGlobal Board of Directors in cooperation with out hosts that conference will still be hosted by MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts with options for synchronous and asynchronous hybrid participation plus a call for community organized gatherings.
Thanks to the conversations that arose here in OEG Connect but also those who responded to our surveys and the OEGlobal Members who participated in the January all members meeting. Thanks to the OEGlobal Board for weighing all of the options and guiding the decision-making.
And let’s also appreciate our MIT colleagues who have been devoting an extraordinary amount of time to conference planning. As well, I hope we keep in mind the importance MIT has had in the past, present, and future of open education.
There, of course, is a fair bit of complexity in such a format, but we are aiming for the most flexible participation options and opening up the conference experience to many who might never have the option to attend in person. Yes, there are specifics that are being worked out, but we want to appreciate all of the voices who shared their perspectives.
Myself, I am most interested in ideas for making the hybrid portion meaningful for all participants. I will be asking more about your ideas here.
Keep the conversations going, and please focus on the constructive side and the things we have in our abilities to change.
MIT in October! Be there if you can, or be there online, and all in open education spirit.
