Curt Newton begins the article series “Come Invent With Us: Perspectives On OEGlobal 2026”, a series of viewpoints on OEGlobal 2026’s program tracks by the Open Education practitioners who make up the OEGlobal26 Host Organizations.
We are excited to “connect” to this new post authored for OEGlobal by a key member of the MIT conference planning team, Curt Newton @cjnewton.
I am resonating with Curt’s connection to an ecosystem and implications for the unexpected that happens in Rebecca Solnit’s “spaciousness of uncertaintity” as it implies possibility and emergence. It brings to mind the metaphors of how people have collectively done “rewilding” of habitats.
I especially appreciated Curt’s invitation to see open education “not as an end in itself, but instead as one of many routes to bigger shared-value ends.” That simple shift in perspective opens up new possibilities. It invites us to look beyond our familiar circles and ask who else shares the values that inspire our work.
His call to explore “co-creative opportunities” across people, ideas, institutions, and communities also resonated with me. Some of the most meaningful innovation happens at those intersections, where different perspectives meet and unexpected connections take root. It reminds me that the future of open education won’t be invented by any one institution or organization, but through the relationships we build and the questions we’re willing to explore together. I’m looking forward to continuing that conversation with this community at OEGlobal 2026.
