Once again, Wednesday is the new Monday as I am late for sharing a weekly find of something interesting all of the past ones tagged monday-connect
Are you curious to know where in your local area are places with articles in Wikipedia? Localpedia does a look up based on a location of all Wikipedia articles (finding ones that have geocoded data).
It returns a “featured” article, a set of “did you know” questions each linked to an article, and access to all the others ones it found.
Gove it a spin and let us know how many articles in local to your location or one of interest.
For the city closest to me, Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, it found 22 articles within 4.7 miles. I did not know this classic brick building I’ve seen from a distance (and currently home of a spa) was originally a railway station.
Local Wikipedia is Wikipedia, but only for things a half hour walk from you. If there are fewer than 25 things close to you, it takes the closest 25 things within about 6 miles. If there are more than 500 things only the closest 500 will be included.
