Before travelling to Brisbane
- Please note: all rooms will provide a speaker microphone, a large screen, and access to audio and internet (if you have this included in your presentation). If you have any other needs, please contact adrian.stagg@unisq.edu.au to determine if additional equipment/access is possible. Equipment may be limited, but we will investigate requests.
- If you are using a presentation file in your session (ie, Powerpoint), please upload the file(s) to this Google Drive Folder. Save the file with the lead presenter’s surname in capital letters, followed by an underscore, and then the title of the presentation. For example, STAGG_Ecology of the Open Practitioner.
- All presenters are requested to use the computer provided in their allocated room, and not their own computer or device. This ensures a smooth transition between speakers, reduces technical difficulties, and ensures we have IT support in case of any malfunction.
Acknowledgement of Country
The conference will open with a Welcome to Country, a practice that shows respect for the Traditional Owners and Elders of a region. In the spirit of reconciliation, the conference is committed to recognition of the role of Indigenous Australians as Custodians of this land and their integral role as we move into the future together.
You may also hear presenters using an Acknowledgement of Country before their sessions. If you would like to include an Acknowledgement, we suggest the following:
- Note that the traditional name of Brisbane is Meanjin (pronounced Mee-an-jin), and the traditional owners are the Turrbal and Yugara people.
- There are suggested formats for the Acknowledgement that you can use. Examples you can consult include the Queensland Government and QUT (one of the conference partners).
- However, the advice always given to staff and students at events is to construct something meaningful as a personal acknowledgement. This is more powerful and reflective than simply reading from a script, although both may be acceptable. The key component is to recognise the Turrbal and Yugara People as the Traditional Owners of the land upon which the conference takes place.
Know When and Where You Present
Confirm your session’s date, time, and location in the Sched OEGlobal 2024 platform. Ideally, plan to be present for the entire track that your session is part of. The entire Open Education Global 2024 conference program is visible on Sched. Please note: there may be changes over the next few weeks.
You should have received a Welcome email from Sched. If you haven’t yet received this, please email us. If you haven’t used Sched before, please register to access the site. You can download the app on your phone – Apple • Google Play – to have the OEGlobal program in your hand.
On the Sched platform, please check:
- Your presentation details
- Ensure that all your collaborators are listed correctly (even if they won’t be in the room)
- Once logged in, please feel free to upload or update your profile with a photo and add or update your bio, social, and contact information. You can find out how to do that here.
- Create your personalized schedule by marking the sessions you plan to attend. You can get the best from Sched with this Attendee Guide.
Important note: Pack a USB key (storage device) to load your presentation and transfer it to the room’s presentation laptop.
Presenter Support at the Venue
- Please collect your name badge from the Welcome desk.
- Please note all presenters will be using the computer in their allocated room for presentations only. This provides a smooth transition between speakers, reduces technical difficulties, and ensures we have IT support in case of any malfunction.
- If you have not uploaded your presentation before arriving in Brisbane, bring a copy on USB to the Registration Desk as soon as possible, preferably on the first day. We will need time to ensure it is filed with the correct session slides.
- We will have a Session Chair in each room and access to BCEC Support Staff if you encounter any technical issues in the room.
- Your Session Chair will introduce all speakers and presentations and – if needed – facilitate any questions (although you may wish to do this for efficiency).
- There will be internet access and wifi set up on each of the laptops provided.
- During the break before your session, take the opportunity to check that your presentation is loaded onto the laptop provided and check that all the slides display easily.
- All session times will be observed by the Session Chair, and to respect the time required for all presentations, these times will be enforced. The time limits for each format can be found via the Session types and times.
- Please ensure you have planned your presentation and question time within the appropriate timeframes. Doing so maximises the success of your message and interaction with the audience.
If you have any questions about the in-room technology, ask as a reply below, send a message to the Help Team, or send an email to conference@oeglobal.org.
