I know this community has had some fascinating conversations in the past about offline tech solutions for education. Thought that this might be of interest to some of you.
I wondered when I clicked the video link why it started as Nicole was saying goodbye, it was the tail end of the live session! Now the full archive will play back.
The conversations about these solutions are helpful on connecting, yet I admit I’d really like to see some more demos or photos or videos that can show us what the experience is like for the learners and the educators. Is this anything we can coordinate for Open Education Week?
I definitely encourage the link to the Offline Internet Consortium as a key resource.
The recent Offline Wikipedia session on YouTube was truly an inspiring and insightful experience! Watching the discussion unfold, witnessing the passion for bringing knowledge to everyone, anywhere, without the need for the internet, was incredible. I absolutely loved every moment of it!
I sincerely wish I could have been part of this session, but I’m certain that in the next one, I’ll be there, ready to share and explore even more cutting-edge technologies that will revolutionize how people access information.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making this session amazing! Your dedication and innovation are paving the way for a future where knowledge knows no boundaries.
Can’t wait for the next session—big things are coming! Stay tuned!
I agree @Rimit I just only heard about this event the same day it happened as my colleague @IslaHF is a part of Wiki Africa. I am unaware if they are planning more on offline internet solutions but hope they do. I am attempting some arm twisting, Isla!
Since you have been sharing your efforts here in OEG Connect for years not, Rimit, if there is a viable away for you to join via video from your location, I would be more than happy to organize a demo of the Pen Drive project on an OEG Live webcast as an event during Open Education Week March 3-7. I extend the offer as well to @danmcguire who has been sharing the related project work of Sopala.
To be repetitive, I am most keen to actually see a demo of the device and how it works for the teachers and the students, a live demo. It need not be fancy, even a mobile device that could act as a camera to show us the pen drive and the way learners interact with it.
I open up the floor for anyone else working on related offline internet efforts like the ones listed above (or others not included).
Reply here with interest or send me a private message via @cogdog
Thank you for your message @cogdog and for considering my work in this space! I truly appreciate the opportunity to share my offline Wikipedia solution with a wider audience.
I would be happy to do a live demo of the device during Open Education Week (March 3-7) via an OEG Live webcast. The device is designed to serve Wikipedia in any language over WiFi, enabling access on mobile phones, laptops, tablets, and other devices without requiring an internet connection. This could be a great way to showcase how teachers and students in rural areas can benefit from it.
Let me know the details on how we can coordinate this, and I’ll do my best to make it happen. Looking forward to contributing to the conversation on offline internet solutions!
Thank you so much, Rimit! I am beyond overjoyed to create both an opportunity to meet but also to have you demonstrate/show us your offline internet pen drive solution.
Yes, there is some irony that you will need an internet connection to do this, but I like to imagine we can discover how the features can be demonstrated on camera for viewers to see how it works. I prefer to run these sessions more like a conversation, like if I visited your office, and we stood around your desk to see your solution, and we just got to ask questions or share ideas.
I will send you a private message, but will offer a time that is friendly for a workday hours in India. I am also seeking out anyone else, I keep nudging @danmcguire who might want to just be there or also demonstrate discuss a different platform. When we advertise, I will also suggest people on their own explore Kiwix or any other offline internet solution - anyone out there from World Possible to show RACHEL or someone who does work with Kolibri? (I can step in there myself, but prefer someone using it in a community).
This is exciting, Rimit, I send you my humble appreciation. Look for a private message very soon.
