We are framing OEWeek as the "Town Square: of Open Education in the sense of the type of places around the world that Wikipedia describes as “open public space commonly found in the heart of a traditional town or city, and which is used for community gatherings.”
Do you have a name for these kind of places where you live?
We stretch the meaning of “week” not to be fixed- the launch dates of March 2-6 are where we at OEGlobal raise the attention for what is taking place as a distributed activity that highlights the ideals and impacts of open education globally by gathering all of this activity into a single calendar.
You can choose your own week! The timing of your own events need not overlap with the first week of March. Listed can take place anytime from that start of February through the end of April.
The scope of events is wide- not just online sessions but also in person talks, workshops, lunch talks, as well as ongoing activities taking place over time- campaigns to raise awareness, calls for open resource sharing. All that we ask of you is to add your events to our calendar.
The web site will open publicly on January 21 for all to add events, but I am looking for anyone who has already organized their events to be ab early tester of the web form for adding events. Please let me know if you want an early “in”.
From Almayzab Digital Library – Sudanese educators committed to digital transformation and open learning:
In solidarity with Open Education Week 2026, the Almayzab Digital Library proudly announces the completion of its fourth training cohort for university faculty. This initiative reflects our mission to empower academics with the digital skills needed to thrive in higher education and research.
Between January and February 2026, we delivered more than 50 hours of online workshops covering:
Digital literacy for university educators
Practical use of Google tools in teaching
Virtual classroom management and design
Interactive resource creation using Canva
Online assessment and survey design via Google Forms
Digital referencing and citation practices
Exploration of digital libraries and institutional repositories
Research data management and open access strategies
AI tools for education and scientific research
Plagiarism detection and academic integrity
Smart chatbots and educational platforms like Moodle and EDCAFE AI
Led by Sudanese experts and hosted entirely online, this program demonstrates our commitment to building a resilient academic community that embraces open education and digital innovation—despite challenges of displacement and limited infrastructure.
We believe open education is not just a philosophy—it is a lifeline.
We are not waiting for change. We are creating it.
With solidarity from Sudan,
Almayzab Digital Library – Fourth Training Program Team.
This is an outstanding accomplishment by the Almayzab Digital Library and for educators in Sudan. I was able to locate the announcement of the program here https://www.mdl.edu.sd/SinglePost/28 is there more information elsewhere?
Perhaps it is possible to share some more detail onto the program through an event or activity for Open Education Week? Or to hear from its designers or participants?
