[Sharing is a challenge] #Introduction "Education and sharing" by Ahmed Galai

Dear OEG community,

Last year, we - the UNESCO Chair RELIA, the UNITWIN-UNOE network and the European University EUniWell - published the 23 good reasons for Open Education, a series of blog posts written by 31 authors from the international OE community in 8 original languages, on good reasons to embrace OE.

As this series was a great success, we are back this year with “Sharing is a challenge”. This time, we asked the OE community to reflect on 16 obstacles to sharing, and ways to overcome them. We again faced great enthusiasm and found authors for all the articles in just a few days!

Throughout March, from Monday to Thursday, we will publish one new article on our three blogs: RELIA, UNOE, and EUniWell.

And today marks the launch of the series, and we are very pleased to introduce it with an article by Ahmed Galai. He is a Tunisian human rights activists, and was vice-president of the Tunisian Human Rights League (2000-2016), which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2015, as part of the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet.

Mr. Galai shares here why sharing is a “fundamental social value”, and how “[i]t prepares citizens for dialogue, solidarity and peaceful conflict resolution so that together we can build a more just, inclusive, united and peaceful society.” A special thank to him for providing us with great calligraphic works, made specifically for this article!

“Education and sharing” by Ahmed Galai

Sharing, education… Two very powerful words that naturally go hand in hand. What could be more fitting than asking a poet, an activist, a great educator to introduce us to the debates of this Open Education Week? Ahmed Galai, Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 2015, does us the great honor of launching our series of articles.
