Big news here for @cable Cable Green- if you have not seen today’s announcement, Cable is moving on from his 15 year perch at Creative Commons.
I will guess I am in a long line of people fortunate to have benefitted from being part of events and discussions he has lead or have listened in on any of his many presentations or just have kept up his ideas shared … all openly.
How about sharing your favorite Cable Green experiences?
A highlight for me was working with Cable and other Creative Commons folks on the first designs of what has become the Creative Commons Certificate. This photo was a lighter side to our first project meeting, 2016 in Washington DC. We visited an art exhibit at the Renwick Gallery-- the exhibit was called “Wonder” which fits the spirit of working with Cable on this project.
I finally got to meet the legendary Dr.Cable Green in person at OE Global in Edmonton, Alberta in 2024. But I’d been following Cable and the open education and Creative Commons community for at least the previous 20 years ( this harkens back to my tiny bit in the early days of John Willinsky’s Public Knowledge Project). This deficit in my conferencing circuit is hard to believe or share…. but until I “retired” from my T&L leadership jobs in higher ed, I’d never gotten “boss’s permission” to attend an OE Global or CC conference!! I had to quit my day job to be admitted to the clan! I bet there are others like me who have been ardent supporters of this movement, but not in either the limelight nor the shadow of the inimitable Cable Green. Best wishes on the next chapter, Cable! Your fans are well-known and also hidden (like me).
I met @cable for the first time because I asked him to record a video on CC licences for a MOOC on OER. I was starting to take my first steps into Open Education after being encouraged by @marcela to “just join, the community will be welcoming”. Cable’s clarity in conveying convincing messages was also key for us at Politecnico di Milano when he joined us to discuss with the teaching staff.
Whenever I asked for your support, Cable, you were there, open in your approach and with some key tips on advocating more effectively. I don’t know if I have learnt them all, but you have made a difference for me so far, and I am so grateful. I look forward to following your next steps, and wish you the best with the path you are now embracing!
