I share with a strong recommendation the opportunity to sign up this series of activities event from Middlebury College, the Digital Detox on Demystifying AI.
Demystifying AI starts January 8 with articles and activities launching every Wednesday through mid-February.
In last year’s Digital Detox, we demystified generative AI through a series of explorations and activities. In our 2025 Detox, we ask: Where are we now with generative AI? A lot of promises have been made and a lot has changed in the last year. Many of us are left wondering how to situate our still-emerging understanding of these technologies. What do we need to know about generative AI and AI more broadly? How do we make decisions about our use of these technologies? How do we assess the impacts these technologies have on our lives and our world? Through readings and activities, we’ll invite participants to consider these questions for themselves and to share what they are learning with others.
“Thank you for the invitation to Middlebury College’s Digital Detox. I’m excited to participate and explore the fascinating discussions around demystifying AI.”
Okay, It’s already week 2, who has signed up? I can’t see anyone in the classroom (there is no classroom). Anyone participating willing to share their responses and observations?
Who looked at or completed Week 01: Better than fire?. This was a first chance to review important concepts like the range of things under the name AI, dealing with polarization, dealing with the speed of change, and many useful resources.
The activity was an “AI Vibe Check” where we were asked to share an article about AI and using a guided series of questions, evaluate it as useful/hype, and other key questions. I shared as AI Granny Sticks It to The Scammers what I thought was actually a very useful use- O2 unveils Daisy, the AI granny wasting scammers’ time - the video is worth a watch!
