In this series, we will be exploring six foundational concepts to help you understand and improve digital accessibility in your teaching practice. The challenges are meant to be bite-sized starting points to get you thinking about accessibility in your course design. We hope that they will inspire you to dig in deeper!
This challenge series was created by Britt Dzioba at BCcampus and is based on selected sessions from the BCcampus Accessibility Bites series, created by Helena Prins and Josie Gray.
Accessibility is the need for us to design and create resources, experiences, tools, and spaces that allow for and support the diversity of our bodies and minds. Although accessibility can benefit everyone, the needs of disabled people should be centred.
Accessible course materials help students with disabilities participate more fully in learning, while also improving the experience for many others. When students can easily access and engage with course content, they can spend more time learning and less time overcoming barriers. Digital accessibility helps ensure that all students have equitable opportunities to participate and succeed.
The Challenge Series
Each challenge will introduce you to a new accessibility topic, provide context as to why this topic matters to student success and inclusion, and provide a short challenge for you to try out these skills on your own.
