What’s of interest? Community Colleges Join Consortium Working to Embed AI Skills into Curriculum and Instruction

Tell me more!

Complete College America (CCA), a national nonprofit on a mission to raise postsecondary attainment in the United States, today announced the selection of five open-access institutions to participate in an ambitious new multi-year initiative designed to prepare students with critical artificial intelligence (AI) skills and hands-on experience. Built in collaboration with Riipen, the world’s leading online work-based learning platform and ecosystem, the CCA AI Readiness Consortium will assist institutions with embedding AI competencies into their academic programs through experiential learning, ensuring students are ready to thrive in an increasingly AI-driven job market.

The CCA AI Readiness Consortium includes five open-access institutions committed to reshaping the future of AI education and skills development:

Atlanta Metropolitan State College, City Colleges of Chicago, City University of New York (CUNY), Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C),

and Pikes Peak State College.

Each of these institutions will lead the integration of AI competencies into academic programs, creating a scalable model for higher education. By partnering with Riipen and CCA, these colleges are taking proactive steps to ensure students are not only learning about AI but also applying it in real-world contexts to enhance their employability and future career options.

This is one among many items I will regularly tag in Pinboard as oegconnect, and automatically post tagged as #OEGConnect to Mastodon. Do you know of something else we should share like this? Just reply below and we will check it out.

Or share it directly to the OEG Connect Sharing Zone

I spotted this first from Inside Higher Education

but followed link upstream to the shared post from Complete College America (anyone familiar with them?)

and the actual home of the consortium is on the Riipen site

As far as Riipen (I enjoy their avocado logo and animation) they are described:

Riipen is a work-based learning platform helping educators, organizations, and learners collaborate on real industry projects to bridge the gap between higher education and employment. With a network of 44,000+ employers and trusted by over 700 academic institutions and training providers, Riipen helps educators integrate real-employer projects into program curriculum leading to improved student engagement and employability outcomes.

This seems very in line with community colleges, and scouring their site, I see a number of community college like missions and case studies. It seems to be a tech platform, with a mission of “providing learners with real-world projects”

Conceptualized as our co-founder’s capstone entrepreneurship project at the University of Victoria, Riipen addressed an issue that they faced personally as students — the challenge of gaining relevant work experience, building a network of possible employers, and then demonstrating their skills to that network in order to find work that would help them start their careers. They were facing the graduation conundrum.

You can’t get a job without experience, but you can’t get experience without a job.

Since inception in 2013, Riipen has expanded its reach internationally and has developed a state of the art technology platform that caters and provides significant competitive advantages for organizations and academic institutions while staying true to their original goal of supporting student development.

To date, Riipen has enabled 164,000+ students at 700+ post-secondary institutions and training providers to partake in applied learning with 44,000+ companies. All of this leads us to our mission: Eliminate underemployment.

This seems of high interest to our CCCOER members… any insight on Riipen and this consortium @heatherb @LizYata ?? And what about our reps from CUNY, Pikes Peak Community College, and Cuyahoga Community College that are among the five participating institutions in this Consortium?
