This brought memories of my own teaching experience (back in 2000s), where we gradually shifted from the old school model of students submitting their work for me to grade, to sharing it with each other and engaging more deeply.
The impact on the quality of their work was remarkable.
We started with submissions via email, then moved to Dropbox (back when it was hot), then an internal wiki, and finally to Wikipedia. Each transition brought better results. By the time we reached Wikipedia, students had to face the possibility of their contributions being removed if they weren’t up to par (and this happened more than once!), which motivated them to put in extra effort.
It was pretty cool to see to see the results. Students engaged more deeply. Open pedagogy FTW!
