Welcome! Do you want to learn how to edit Wikipedia? The Wikimedia Core Curriculum is a set of instructional modules designed to teach complete beginners the basic skills and principles needed to successfully integrate into the English Wikipedia editing community.

A puzzle piece globe with Wikimedia logos and title Introduction to Wikimedia projects

It focuses on teaching the core content policies, because understanding those is the key difference between people who encounter a lot of friction in Wikipedia (and eventually give up or get blocked) and those who thrive and remain active and valued volunteers. Each module will help you to edit Wikipedia with more confidence and avoid the mistakes that often get people’s contributions rejected.

These modules were designed by the Community Development team at the Wikimedia Foundation with valuable input from Wikimedians. They’re under constant iteration and we welcome any feedback.

Each module can be completed individually and they’re fully student-led. We recommend following the learning pathway as indicated, but feel free to take as many or few modules as you require in the order of your preference.

The course assumes proficiency with grammatically correct written English, a general high school education, and regular access to the Internet. No other prior knowledge is required.

You’ll need a Wikimedia account to log in. New here? a short video shows you how to create one.

A very clean and easy to digest self-paced course for learning Wikimedia basics- the pace of short videos narrated by experts and a few quizzes for understanding check is a flexible design.

The course is in English, I did not go deeper to see if there were translations.

Does this seem useful in your context? What are your trusted references for helping educations learn about participating in the Wikimedia ecosystem? More example I have shared elsewhere here Molly White’s Become a Wikipedia in 30 Minutes video.

I forgot to give my hat tip h/t to @Downes as this was in today’s OLDaily email. Thanks Stephen!

We are a group of volunteers dedicated to enriching Sudanese content. We joined Wikipedia in 2022 and received training from a youth-led group called Wikipedia Sudan. Our team includes members from various academic and professional backgrounds, and we continue to stay engaged. We also work with Arab-speaking trainers who support us in areas such as citations, image descriptions, and adding reliable sources.
