I tuned in early today to catch Robin DeRosa @actualham (online) do the opening keynote for University of Regina’s Open Education Bootcamp 2025 – she was full force speaking on “Open and the Oligarchs: Planting Seeds in a World on Fire”
Hopefully there will be recordings posted, and I recommend looking at the full schedule this week, I see keynotes as well by OEG Board members @rjhangiani and @Glencox
What’s shared now came from an audience question to Robin at GenAI, and she share the work of her colleague Martha Burtis at the Plymouth State University Open CoLab specifically in what they call “Design Forward” Modules - self paced axtivities, openly licensed too, specifically The AI Challenge – “teaching and learning about, with, and against generative AI”
Welcome to The AI Challenge, a self-paced Design Forward module created to build faculty capacity with generative artificial intelligence (GENAI). Use the module menu above or the cards below to navigate the four topics; on each topic page you will find related resources, questions, and activities.
Since this is a self-paced module, you should proceed in whatever way makes you comfortable. Feel free to take as little or as much time as necessary and focus on whatever components resonate most deeply with you and your own pedagogical value and needs.
Also worth exploring is the AI Challenge Collection, a site that-- “collects ideas and resources for exploring Generative AI at the university level. The primary feature is a collection of ideas for assignments, assessments, and other activities that you can explore using in your own classroom. These are tagged by type, discipline and topic. We have collected these ideas from various online resources that are freely available online; for each item, we have provided a link to and information about the original resource as well as usage rights.”
I’ve had the good fortune to work with and learn from Martha, she is someone with a keen insight who is also very creative with designing engaging and sound activities. This AI Challenge is open for any to use at their own speed and I would also recommend highly along with the Middlebury College 2025 Digital Detox on AI Demystified as well as the 2024 version.
