I’m excited to be seeing a great series of open education activities of the closest university to where I live. From the Centre for Teaching Learning at the University of Regina, is an open webinar on “Why Open Education Will Become Generative AI Education” featuring the always provocative @opencontent
For over 25 years, the primary goal of the open education movement has been increasing access to educational opportunity. And from the beginning of the movement the primary tactic for accomplishing this goal has been creating and sharing OER. However, using generative AI is a demonstrably more powerful and effective way to increase access to educational opportunity. Consequently, if we are to remain true to our overall goal, we must begin shifting our focus from OER to generative AI.
Count on David to instigate some lively discussions.
This is an event offered by and for the open education community. If you are logged into OEG Connect, return to the main OE Events space where you can add your own event as a new topic
Hi @cjnewton and @benjpjanssen - I just heard back from University of Regina organizer Shuana Niessen that the University has just increased the seating to open up the registration for more people- sign up now!
Hoping folks have been able to register for this webinar, there’s definitely been some interesting bubbling of reactions to the topic. Perhaps this similarly titled keynote from OTESSA24 conference is a preview:
Adding in later- @opencontent himself is blogging more of a preview of his September 19 talk
Hah, I was sure I registered for this webinar but either my memory failed or I never got the email. I heard the chat was rather active, but not enough time for a Q&A (?).
If you are like me and want to watch as a rerun (yes I am Generation Broadcast TV), it’s on YouTube
