Connect Memo: Hello and Welcome New Community Members for August 2025

How is almost the end of August? Tell me where time goes, okay? It’s time for a quick OEG Connect connect-memo today specifically to welcome a batch of new people who have joined this site.

How about sending them a Hello?

So here is an OEG Connect welcome to the newest to sign up… @isaacdejesus35066, @priyadsivakumar, @Noor, @anuradhask, @kumarajith, @Ahmed556, @aditya198601, @Alana, @Gularnuri, @23042021, @openhpecollective, @magee1992, @habtamu-2025, @Ali, @Mira_BZ, @rmckernan, @Sirbiti, @Zach

It would be wonderful if all of you might reply with a bit of an introduction. Why did you sign up for OEG Connect? Where on the globe are you located? What are you most interested in learning from others? What are you most excited about in open education?

That Makes 1921

Indeed, our newest batch of community members pushed us over the 1900 mark to a total of 1921. Very quickly, like last month, I exported a list of all the entries that people enter in their profiles for “Where in the World Are You Located?”

As such, we get a rather wild (and interesting) range of free entry responses. I again plopped them into ChatGPT and asked to consolidate to a list of countries represented, resulting in a total 75 countries of the world represented in OEG Connect
see the data: country_frequency.xlsx (6.5 KB)

I’m not quite confident in the accuracy of it’s ability to color in maps, but this does look pretty close to matching the list. Hello OEG Connect World.

How About Some OEG Connect Rebooting?

This space has grown a bit sprawling from 5 plus years of not overly structured use, which to me is more how open communities should work. I am keenly interested in making this a more active space, and secretly plotting some new strategies to draw more people into contributing and replying.

Can it be rebooted? Do I need a lizard’s help, this one cannot do the control-alt-delete command.

It gets pretty quiet here at times? What would make this more interesting? What would spurn you to ask a question, share a resource, post an event?

Some new topics that could use some replies!

Hello? Hello?

Hello everyone :waving_hand:,

Dear colleagues,

My name is Gular Nuriyeva and I am a university educator in the field of pedagogy in Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, currently based in Azerbaijan. I joined OEG Connect because I would like to connect with colleagues around the world, exchange experiences, and explore new approaches in open education.

I am especially interested in learning from others about open educational resources, active learning strategies, and how open practices can enhance collaboration among students and teachers.

What excites me most about open education is its ability to make knowledge more accessible, inclusive, and collaborative, while also inspiring innovation in teaching and learning. I believe that openness in education helps us create stronger connections and support learners in more meaningful ways.

I am looking forward to engaging with you all and contributing to the discussions in this community.

Best regards,
Gular Nuriyeva

Hello everyone! So excited to start exploring this amazing community! We can feel energy and inspiring sparkles around. We are Konstantina from Greece and Mustafa from Iraq and we are here representing our recently established international collective on Open Health Professions Education. We are trying to bring more openness in the world of Medical Education and we joined to interact with open educators around the world, explore initiatives, discuss, exchange motivation and ideas! We are especially interested in Open Pedagogy Practices <3 Can’t wait to interact with you! Thank you for such a warm welcoming!

Welcome Gular and many thanks for introducing yourself. I am fascinated to learn more about Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University and one ought to admire a university with pedagogy in it’s name (and that it has been around since 1921).

Does that mean its main programs or teacher education? Or that pedagogy is part of all programs? What is the interest, activity, practice in open education at ADPU?
