This is me trying to model starting a conversation about my own conference session, we need your help too! If you are presenting, here is a chance to promote your session, share some information in advance- entice people to show up! If you attend a session, this is also way you can contribute anything, even just a link, or notes/reflections to share with everybody.
When I submitted a session about the Open Education Awards for Excellence I thought we might be able to have a showcase and words from winners present at the conference as we did in 2024 in Brisbane and 2023 in Edmonton. But given the need to give as much time to our presenters, I offered the suggestion to make this an online discussion session that is on the Sched for Wednesday Oct 7 in the afternoon – https://sched.co/1pHfE.
I can see in Sched that we have a few 2026 awardees signed up and also ones from previous years, and we will offer any of them willing to share about the work they were recognized for.
But I also hope we can have this less formal and more an open discussion of the role/value of recognition and ideas that we can incorporate into the next round to encourage more community members to take that step to submit a nomination. I also have my own fuzzy thoughts on some other lower threshold mechanisms for doing smaller scale acts of appreciation/recognition (I keep hoping for uptake of the Hat Tip remixer).
So I am opening this discussion space (as I hope other presenters might do) to ask for ideas about ways we (the collective we) can do even more acts of gratitude/appreciation. Or share with us what kinds of programs you have in place to do this at your institution.
And stand by, we we are planning now (you are first to hear) to run. a more formal (well longer) event the first week in December for our 2026 awardees to have the stage to share what they do. And look as well for some invited short talk sessions from all nominees during Open Education Week 2027.

This is my hope for a collective/community effort to share all the things that happen across these 3 full days conference activity.
