Monday Connect (late): Welcome On Board to OEG Connect

Due to a bout with the flu I am not only a day behind on creating a new weekly monday-connect I am a week behind too, but I have not seen anyone taking count. But regardless, it is also time we extend a welcome to the people around the world who have recently signed up to be here in OEG Connect.

Welcome Aboard! We are glad to have you here, with red shoes or not. This space has now 2025 people representing 89 different countries. That feels global to me!

Specifically the welcome out to all these folks who should get a wee notification of this mention. We hope you are interested in letting us know more about your interests in open education, where in the world you are located, any specific questions or hope you would like to receive from this community.

Just as a small FYI, our signup form includes an open field for people to enter their location as open text, city country… so maybe needless to say we get quite a variety of non structured locations.

I have taken to exporting all the entries to a text file, and having ChatGPT do a normalization to country names as well as a frequency count. The prompt used is

The attached file includes responses from a web form where users were asked to enter their city and country. Make an alphabetically sorted list of all countries represented in these responses, including normalizing acronyms like “UK” and “US” to country names. Skip ones where a country cannot be determined. Include frequencies of occurrence and export as CSV
