OEGlobal 2026 satellite event in Vancouver!

Hello friends! Odds are good that by now you’ve heard about the satellite event that ISKME and BCcampus are co-hosting in Vancouver, Canada for this year’s OEGlobal conference.

I just wanted to give folks a heads up that if you were thinking of registering and would like to have a say in what sessions get livestreamed, please register by EOD Sept 11!

In addition to livestreams, we’ll have some special in-person programming and activities, and attendees will get breakfasts and lunches provided. Our programming will be a great opportunity to learn about how partners in open education are working across British Columbia and Canada, but everyone who can come is welcome to join us!

Regular registration is $30/day or $80 for all three days, and student registration is $15/day or $40 for all three days. Register here! I also have a limited number of free student registrations available for Canadian indigenous and First Nations students – contact me directly for more details.

Many thanks to Internet Archive Canada for sponsoring the venue – if you haven’t seen the Vancouver HQ yet, The Permanent is stunning and I’m excited to welcome attendees there. (see picture below) As well, many thanks to the folks at Pressbooks for their financial support of the event!

Here here, hear hear, if you are in the Vancouver region try to make plans to be there for the OEGlobal 2026 Satellite event, or as we call it OEGlobal26 YVR. We appreciate the plans Peter, Lisa, Megan at ISKME are pulling together with support from BCcampus and now Pressbooks.

It’s worth it just to experience the venue at The Permanent home of the event sponsor, Internet Archive Canada.

As Peter describes it, there will be activities and sessions of local interest plus participant chosen sessions from the OEGlobal 2026 conference happening the same days in Cambridge. Several online presenters in Vancouver will do their presentations locally, and we are “connecting” all conference participants in a special area of OEG Connect for conference (and YVR satellite) attendees.

Peter and I are plotting a few more ideas to have some live and asynchronous connections during the conference days.

Make plans to be part of OEGlobal 2026 from Vancouver (register), from Cambridge, or from anywhere (where I will be) online (register for online).

I’ll be at the Vancouver satellite too. I attended the official launch open house of Internet Archive Canada a few years ago and the venue is quite amazing. I look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones there. Lots to explore and imagine as this work moves forward.

I think I’d be up for this. I have a fair bit going on in the next few weeks but if there’s a group that may work on this I’m interested in connecting and hopefully could dedicate a little time to it!

Thanks @paulstacey for starting an active discussion on a response to the Canadian government’s survey on AI Transparency. I exercised some community editing to move this inside the conference space to be its own discussion. Carry on there!
