Time to Open Health Professions Education: Get to know our Collective

Hello there! First post here excited and nervous

We have spent the last days going over your sharing of initiatives and you are truly inspiring. We wanted to share our initiative with you to hear your input and of course to join us if you are interested.

So, we are Konstantina (from Greece) and Mustafa (from Iraq), we are both young doctors with a shared passion for learning design, co-creation, student involvement and sharing. We found ourselves quite active since our student years in the world of medical education, a world that we wanted to make more inclusive, creative and student-centered. Since our first discoveries of Open Education, it felt exactly like the learning and teaching experiences we believe in and we made individual and common efforts to bring its qualities closer to Health Professions. After some years of actions, we recently launched the Open HPE Collective, a global initiative to transform health professions education through openness. We aim to promote a collective movement where health knowledge is shared openly, learners and educators co-create, and health professions education becomes more accessible across borders. :globe_showing_europe_africa:

The OpenHPE Collective is a growing global community of health educators, learners, and advocates working to:

:unlocked: Share and co-create OERs for Health Professions Education (HPE)

:unlocked: Practice and promote Open Pedagogy in HPE that empowers learners

:unlocked: Encourage creative commons licensing so knowledge travels further

:unlocked: Build bridges across borders for more equitable health education

Hello and a warm welcome to you, Konstantina and Mustafa. I offer appreciation for for of being more excited than nervous to introduce the Open HPE Collective.

It is impressive to see you as doctors embracing open education approaches. I know there are many here in this community involved with the medical field. I hope others can share their experience and suggestions for relevant open education resources and practices, and also look to support the Open HPE Collective develop their own community.

As your web site mentions applying for a grant from ScholarRX, I will do my best to get you in touch with their representative of this fantastic organization, which is also a member of Open Education Global.

A few things to keep on the horizon from us at OEGlobal:

  • We are quickly working up details for next month’s OEGlobal World Tour 2025, a three day virtual (open! free!) event October 14-16 that will be focusing specifically on different regions of the world to share “snapshots” of open education, and on the first we are keen to highlight specifically efforts in the Middle East. Watch this space for more details on how to participate.
  • We would very much like to see your Collective organize either local events or online events for the next, annual Open Education Week, launching on March 2, 2026.
  • In general, please feel not nervous at all to ask specific questions in this community.

Thank you so much for your kind words and wonderful ideas :thought_balloon: We are happy cause we got the grant for ScholarRX so we will develop a brick for Open Ed in HPE for their website - thank you so much for proposing to help! As for the upcoming events they all seem wonderful and we will try to join from the tour to the campaign! Open to all ideas and input!
