Welcome! Pack Your Suitcase for a Transcontinental Day Trip

Here is my hello for those following activities and hopefully being active here in discussions for all that is happening on the OEGlobal 2025 Tour’s first day. I am Alan Levine aka @cogdog and am the Open Education Global staff member organizing (or trying to do that) activities for October 14.

When our team signed up for the days they would support, most of them wisely chose the regions that overlapped with their time zone. I did the opposite- I am close to the other side of the globe from the regions represented in day one (I live in central Canada). Oh tis reminds me, I hope everyone here will make use of our padlet map to add a pln for their location- this is just a simple way to show ther global participating in the tour.

Let’s pack our virtual suitcases, or better yet, bring them empty so we can fill with ideas and connections we an create here.

(Oh I love digital photography and am adamant about using and attributing open licensed images. Ask me sometime why I attribute my own photos).

I’d like to introduce as well my colleagues who are co-hosts on Day 1, our OEGlobal Board members @yamazato @shironica @wanhsu1234 – did you see how I referenced them by their OEG Connect user names? It not only provides you a way to see their profile (click the @name) but they also will get a notification that I mentioned them in this topic. This is a polite way to tag other people, and I am hopeful they will reply back with their own greetings.

We do hope many will join us for the live sessions for the opening day of the tour starting 2025-10-14T04:30:00Z (any date and time you see with that globe icon should be converted to your own local time. Please see the overview of what we are trying to fit in for 2 hours, it is, well ambitious.

That’s why this community space is important, at least I believe, because it offers a means for many more people to not only share their open education work and ideas, but to meet others, and engage on their own time schedule.

I also am the person at OEglobal who “manages” this platform we are using (is is the open source community tool Discourse). We have been using this since March 2020 and over time we have seen more than 1800 open educators join the space. It can get confusing when you first arrive, so please feel free to ask me a question anytime- if you click someone’s icon, you have the ability to send private messages.

Lastly, maybe, I tend to write too much, I am excited to see what the people who join in the activities here create as their own open education snapshots by remixing our digital postcard. This is but one of the many (open) creativity tools available, free and open, from the Fabulous Remixer Machine created by the brilliant and talented Bryan Mathers @VisualThinkery

So what are you hoping to take away in your own virtual suitcases from the tour next week? Please reply here and elsewhere, conversations make this place come alive.
