Abstract

When the 16th annual Open Education Conference started with the organizer stepping down, the community was left with many questions about what would come next. After a period of uncertainty, a coalition of organizations and volunteers came forward with a plan to support the conference for the next two years while transitioning it over to a community-owned model of governance—just in time to confront the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this session, members of the OpenEd Conference Steering Committee will share how they rose to the challenge, executing the first ever fully online version of the conference while simultaneously supporting a community-driven process to reimagine what the conference could be. Session facilitators will speak to some of their victories and hurdles, and then facilitate a dialogue with attendees on how to strive toward truly inclusive exchanges of ideas in the open education space.
