Abstract

Open Education for a Better World (OE4BW) Online Mentoring Programme from UNESCO’s Chair on Open Technologies for Open Learning and Open Educational Resources is working towards the realization of the potential of open education in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Academicians through OE4BW programme have been passionately collaborating for designing, development and deployment of quality OER to support and promote open education. The paper implicates analysis of experiences and views of OER developers, mentors and hub-coordinators from OE4BW community along with those of beneficiaries of OER developed under OE4BW programme. Content analysis of OER developed is also a crucial part of it along with the interviews of OE4BW initiators so to realize their opinions as well. Personal reflections of researchers as developers and mentors of this programme are also a part of this study. This has led to observations about the significance of OE4BW in terms of its worth as an emerging player in open education and addressing SDGs. This study throws light on the prospects of OE4BW through suggestions from the stakeholders. It offers propositions regarding designing, development and deployment of OER under this programme emphasizing the needs, aspirations and strengths of participating countries. Above all, this study shows how OE4BW programme is addressing UNESCO OER recommendation of facilitating International cooperation towards open education and attainment of SDG and how it can advance in future.
