Laura Henderson, Head of Program for Public Outreach at Frontiers
Frontiers for Young Minds is a unique, open-access kids’ science journal.
We provide an amazing collection of freely available scientific articles, for kids aged 8-15. But we don’t just publish content which scientists think is accessible, we get our target audience directly involved as curators of the content!
Our unique review process involves our young students aged 8-15 as Young Reviewers, to connect directly with the science of the article, as well as the distinguished scientists who are our authors. They learn not only the discovery or concept, ensuring it is accessible for their peers; but also learn to think critically and ask the right questions, ready to become the scientists of tomorrow!
Our process also gives a huge benefit to the authors themselves, enabling them to greatly improve their skills in communicating their work to a lay audience, empowering them as researchers to make a greater difference with their publication outreach.
We’ve already had huge success, with over 19M views and downloads achieved worldwide (averaging 20K+ per article published), demonstrating our value to kids everywhere. We’re looking to expand further this year in new ways - join our talk (link below) to find out more!
We publish across six broad scientific fields shown below.
The journal has been able to attract significant international funding allowing us to publish articles in two additional languages, Hebrew and Arabic.
Frontiers for Young Minds is part of Frontiers, a leading Open Access Publisher and Open Science Platform.
Frontiers journals are led and peer-reviewed by editorial boards of over 100,000 top researchers. Covering more than 900 academic disciplines, we are now the 6th largest and 3rd most cited publisher in the world.
